Of Substance is a news source not subject to string pulling by any powerful entities; we pride ourselves in providing an unbiased platform where the public can access views and news assembled straight from the capable handles of the research and academic community.

The knowledge is gathered from reputable institutions like CSIRO, universities and research institutes under the watchful eye of a highly professional team of editors with years of experience under their belts. Keeping in line a functioning democracy hinges a great deal upon access to top-notch journalism tailored around explanatory and substantiated news items.

We seek to ensure the public is always in the know and that they hold quality conversations, and even constructive discourse, around sensitive matters like current affairs among other difficult issues. The end game is to ensure that the very same public has a good understanding of all these matters.

In recent times the public’s trust in journalism has faded due to the thriving of a practice of careless and unfactual news gathering. However, we seek to rebuild that eroding trust through our new controls and protocols and our strict community standards policy which all our content creators must adhere to. Failure to which they will be handed a life ban from our website.

The policy stipulates that authors must have proven expertise in the field they choose to write about, which will be substantiated by legitimate credentials accompanying the same article. Moreover, if there is a conflict of interest e.g. where the author is writing an article about or remotely relevant to his or her source of funding, be it an institution, partner or anything of the kind, then this must also be clearly outlined as well.

We started out in March 2011 and have gone on to be one of the forces to reckon with on the Australian Journalism scene both as an independent news figure and a commentary platform. As a testament to our proven track record, our journalism has defied the confines of national borders with 35% of our readers hailing outside our parent country.

Launched in Melbourne, Victoria, our organization consists of only the best brains, in terms of development and innovative technology, drawn from the research precinct of Carlton and the university.

Our aim has always been to ensure the constant circulation of information to all at no cost whatsoever. And as such, all our content is free to read; it is not hidden behind the nuisance of paywalls synonymous with money hungry journalism. You can read, share and even republish in accordance with Creative Commons without having to pay a dime for it. The only price you’ll need to pay is to stick to the simple guidelines that govern our content and its use.

Over the years we have managed to cement ourselves as a reliable news source that ensures a continuous up to date supply of free content, talent and ideas. Be it TV, radio or web, we got it all taken care of.

Our success would not be possible without the aid of our founding partners who helped pay the bills so a special appreciation goes out to them namely CSIRO, University of Western Australia, Monash University, University of Technology Sydney, University of Melbourne, RMIT University, Strategic Partners Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Corrs Chambers Westgarth and all our other partner institutions who have continued to fund and thereby assist drive our cause forward.
